Global Warming is all the rage at the mo and quite rightly so. Why did it get to this?? Well with the UN report on Global Warming released, the scientists say that there is a 90% chance that human activity is causing climate change. So should the debate now be over? Should we be worried? Well most definitely Yes! and most definitely Yes!! Global warming is a reality, and we must do something about it now, especially if you havn't even contemplated it before, in order to preserve a bright future for the next generations. Three of the biggest causes of global warming are the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and intensive agricultural practices. All of which have big impacts on our personal health as well as our planet, So as a global community we must learn to live differently.
So, what can we do? Lots, so just do it now......
Let's choose not to support industrial agriculture and factory farming. We can support sustainable farming by buying organic produce, free-range eggs and chicken, and pasture-fed meats and dairy.
Let's buy local whenever possible so less fossil fuels are used to transport our food and goods and support our local farmers.
Let's choose products with as little packaging as possible.
Lets bring our own bags when we shop. Avoid those nasty plastic bags they give out freely at supermarkets as much as possible
Let' walk or bike rather than drive those short distances, whenever possible. Better for your health! Better for our environment!
Let's just own the one car. Do we need more?
Let's convert our car to run on bio-diesel.
Let's make sure our tires are properly inflated - under-inflated tires waste gas.
Let's turn off the car rather than idle it.
Let's check the air filter on the car monthly and replace it when necessary.
Let's turn out the lights when leaving the room.
Let's ensure the walls and ceilings are well insulated to conserve extra heating.
Let's turn down the thermostat.
Let's exchange the light bulbs for energy-efficient ones.
Let's unplug electronics and battery chargers when not in use.
Let's choose energy-efficient home appliances.
Let's run the dishwasher and washing machine only when it is full.
Let's keep our shower time short.
Let's install a low-flow showerhead and toilet.
Let's use cold or warm rather than hot water to wash our clothing.
Let's use a clothesline to dry our clothes instead of a dryer.
Let's donate old clothing rather than throwing them out.
Let's use 100% recycled paper, and not print a copy of everything. Go paper-free
Let's reduce, re-use and recycle, and compost our food waste.
Let's recycle as much as possible
Let's avoid the use of aerosals and the likes
Let's all plant at least one tree.
Let's tell our government representative that global warming is the most important issue there is, and demand government action.
Let's encourage all our friends and family to do the same!
If you want to learn what the world will look like when the ocean rises to what is predicted and how many coastal cities will be partially or completely under water then read the book or buy/rent the film by Al Gore's, called "An Inconvenient Truth".
